Delivery drivers have been fined for parking in a taxi rank in Huddersfield town centre.
YorkshireLive reports that this follows cabbies’ complaints to Kirklees Council about takeaway delivery drivers from Deliveroo and JustEat parking in taxi bays.
Increased demand for takeaway deliveries has left taxi drivers unable to rank and pick up fares in Market Street.
Civil enforcement officers with help from West Yorkshire Police, recently issued fixed penalty notices to seven non-taxi drivers caught parking in the bays.
West Yorkshire Police Huddersfield said: “Several taxi drivers approached us and thanked us for looking into this matter and taking positive action.
“This operation will be repeated over the next few months so the message gets out that it is not acceptable to park in Kirklees taxi bays.”
